WEEKLY PLAN 25TH MARCH

EXPERIMENT A

Do plants move?

What do yo need?

  • A little plant in a pot.
  • A box with a circuit for light designed by you.
This project shows students that plants will always grow towards the light. Students will enjoy seeing which direction the plant grows. Ask them to make predictions on which way they think the plants will grow then compare them with what actually happens.Procedure:
Insert a little pot into a box, with several walls in the way, stopping the light from getting straight to the plant base.
Leave one side open for you to watch.
Water regularly.
Wait for a week or longer to see how the plant tries to reach the light.

Answer the question: which way do you think the plants will grow?
Make your hypothesis, report your findings and draw a conclusion after you test your hypothesis.

EXPERIMENT B

How does a leaf get water?

You need:
- a branch of a tree or a large plant
- a ziploc bag

  • Choose a plant from home or a tree in your backyard, and attach a Ziploc bag to it, enclosing a branch covered in leaves.
  • Seal the Ziploc enough to hold it in place. You can also use a plastic grocery bag and tie the handles in a knot to secure it.
  • Leave the bag on the tree for a week, checking it every day.
  • Observe what happens to the zip bag. Describe and draw your conclusion.
